Papaya Hotel Site Clearance Begins
Papaya Hotel & Spa has recently become an Approved Project under the citizenship program and site preparation work has been initiated.
As of April 2014 the main hotel access road has been cut into the hotel entrance area. Site clearing will continue for the next weeks and surveying of individual hotel villa properties has commenced.
The final design of common areas and placement of hotel villas will only occur in situ, or on the site itself after it has been cleared of sufficient vegetation. This is a critical step in a virgin area such as Rendezvous Bay in ensuring the highest possible use of the spectacular views and perspectives afforded by the site topography. This process is planned to continue through the spring and summer months.
By the late summer months full infrastructure work will be underway for the 2.4 kilometre access road into the Rendezvous Bay project from the main road of English and Falmouth Harbours, the home of Caribbean yachting and a chic intersection of European restaurants, luxury boutique hotels, and the vibrant mix of international and Caribbean cultures and nightlife.
By the fall of 2014 servicing work is scheduled to be underway with water and power lines being placed underground throughout the first phase of residential lifestyle homes and the hotel. This work will continue in 2015 and evolve into the concrete and steel being placed for bridges and hotel structures.
The structures of Papaya Hotel & Spa will be built out of high-gauge galvanized steel factory manufactured to exact tolerances. The wall interiors will be an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial expanded polystyrene insulation with electrical and mechanical conduits in place. The interior and exterior wall cladding will be a combination of concrete and cut stone with wood accent. The floors will use both travertine stone and tropical hardwood, while the interior vaulted ceilings will be a treated wood.
Exterior decking and poolsides will also combine stone and wood. Elmsbridge has maintained a nursery farm in Antigua for the last 30 months, growing over 12,000 tropical plants and palm trees for the purpose of providing mature plant coverings for the hotel and the first residential phase as soon as building erection has been completed.
Using the factory manufactured structures and pre-finished high quality coverings, the build time for the Papaya Hotel & Spa will be significantly less than traditional Caribbean concrete block building methods and offer much higher finish levels. It is a more expensive type of construction, but the target date for Papaya Hotel & Spa to be open is November 2016 in time for the most lucrative period of the year. This schedule and construction planning should allow Papaya Hotel & Spa to be completed in mid-2016, giving the project a significant time contingency and the ability to hone the operations before Christmas season.
